Would you like to make a positive impact on your community? If you live in the TCSD service area, you can apply to become one of the founding members of the TCSD Volunteer Commission. After reviewing applications, the TCSD Board appoints residents to begin this important commission, up to seven members.
The Volunteer Commission’s role will be to help identify volunteer activities to assist TCSD’s community with projects and events. Volunteer Commissioners will be expected to volunteer to recruit others to volunteer for specific projects. Commissioners will propose, form, manage and report on the activities of volunteer groups. The TCSD Board may direct the Commission to investigate certain projects.
The Volunteer Commission reports to the TCSD Board and staff. Unlike the elected TCSD Board, a commissioner does not hold the power to direct staff or financial resources. The commission will have on-going communications with TCSD staff and may make project recommendations to the TCSD Board. Commission meetings are noticed public meetings. The Commission will choose a Commission Chair and the Chair will report quarterly to the TCSD Board.
Any resident interested in volunteerism, Board service, and enhancing local services through their own effort is a good candidate for the Volunteer Commission.
When/Where: The Volunteer Commission will meet on an as needed basis in the Tam Valley Community Center. Subcommittee or project meetings may be added as needed. Volunteer Commission projects may occur in your neighborhood or throughout the TCSD service area.
Sample Projects May Include:
- Recruit neighbors for brush trimming days
- Organize children’s clothing swap
- Attend a composting workshop and then teach others
- Investigate forming of Tam Valley chapters of volunteer organizations
