Successfully “Aging in Place”:
Empowering OIder Adults to Lead Active and Healthier Lives
Please join John Power, Executive Director of Marin Villages, as he describes the issues faced by so many of us and our loved ones who want to successfully age in place in our own homes, lead active lives, and stay connected to our familiar communities.
Marin Villages is part of a dynamic and successful national village movement, effectively using a volunteer-led ‘neighbors helping neighbors’ model. In addition to its history and current happenings, John will outline for us what opportunities there are for volunteering and the benefits one might enjoy through membership.

This is a free event but it’s helpful to know how many will be attending. Reserve your seat here!

John Power, Executive Director of Marin Villages, has demonstrated a lifelong commitment to public service.

Having earned his B.A. in political science from the University of California at Berkeley, and his MBA from Santa Clara University, John’s early career included his role as Deputy District Director for San Jose Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren from 1995 to 1998, serving as chief policy advisor on issues including health and human services, immigration, environmental issues and civil justice, as well as the congresswoman’s senior liaison between federal government agencies, national advocacy groups, community-based organizations, the private sector and other local constituencies. John subsequently led The Volunteer Center in San Francisco as its Executive Director for two decades, and also launched the national Board Match during this time.

John is past Chairman of the Board of Goodwill Industries of San Francisco, San Mateo and Marin, and has been named to numerous local, state and national advisory boards, including the City & County of San Francisco Mayor’s Disaster Council, the Readiness Advisory Group of the State of California Emergency Services Council, and the Reimagining Service Subcommittee of the Federal Advisory Council to The Presidio Trust.

John joined the Marin Villages Team as executive director in May 2021, and leads the effort to redefine aging and community for older adults who cherish living in their homes, forging new friendships, gathering for events and celebrations, and supporting each other throughout their aging journeys.

A Bay Area native and avid runner, John lives in Kentfield with his partner of 27 years.
