June has been recognized as PRIDE Month since the first related presidential proclamation in 1999. Over these more than 25 years it has become a global celebration and recognition of the LGBTQ+ community.
Our Tam Tuesdays Speaker Series is honoring this internationally recognized period in the calendar by hosting local resident Janna Barkin, a published author, insightful parent coach and advocate for the rights of transgender youth.
As a lifelong educator and learner, Janna is committee to fostering awareness, compassion and acceptance in society, and has been a featured speaker at Fortune 500 companies, conferences, community centers, schools, book stores and libraries, as well as the New York Department of Health and the San Francisco Human Rights Commission
. She facilitates support groups for parents and grandparents through PFLAG National, Stand with Trans, and DOROT NYC, and is also the best-selling author of “He’s Always Been My Son: A Mother’s Story” and “A Grand Love.” The mother of a transgender son, Janna will be speaking with us about understanding and awareness of gender, with the goal of fostering respect and understanding. We are quite fortunate to be able to host Janna, and hope you will join us to hear from this engaging speaker.
